Paternal Ponderings – Friday, January 19

Happy Friday, Pondering Pals!

I hope you all had a fantastic week. We all worked for the weekend, and now it’s here!

It’s been a busy week at Pondering Headquarters. Finding that optimal work-life balance has proven to be a bit more challenging than I had anticipated. However, I think I’ve created a solid time management plan. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Have you created a Time Management Plan to keep yourself organized and avoid unwanted stress and anxiety?  What has worked out well for you? Share your time management strategies in the comment section below!

Additional Ponderings…

Stormy Weather in Washington

Earlier this week, news outlets began reporting an interesting story regarding our Commander in Chief’s inability to remain faithful to his wife. According to multiple reports, President Trump began an illicit affair with adult film star, Stormy Daniels. As if the affair wasn’t bad enough, the short-lived fling (which, according to a 2011 piece from In Touch Weekly, included our president being spanked by a copy of Forbes featuring himself on the cover) occurred shortly after the First Lady gave birth to their son.

One month prior to the 2016 election, Trump paid the star of such films as Good Will Humping and Trailer Park Nurses 6 $130,000 to remain quiet about the affair. Oh, and he also paid her using the bank account of a non-existent business.

The worst part? No one seems to care! Oh, to be rich, white, and the most powerful man in the world!

AFC Championship Game

The Pondering Father is off to Foxborough this Sunday for the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium! I was lucky enough to secure tickets thanks to the pre-sale offered to New England Revolution Season Members. I’m hoping for a big Patriots victory to send the home team off to Super Bowl 52 in Minnesota!

The news of Tom Brady’s injury to his throwing hand is certainly disconcerting to hear. With Jacksonville’s stout front seven looking to hit Brady on every drop-back, there has to be a legitimate concern in Foxborough as to Brady’s status for Sunday. While he’ll undoubtedly start, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be able to power through a game in which he’ll likely be knocked around a bit.

If Brady’s injury negatively impacts his ability to throw the ball, Jacksonville has a shot to shock the home crowd much like they did to Pittsburgh’s towel-waving brigade last week. However, I’m hopeful that the injury, while certainly present, has been over-dramatized in the spirit of gamesmanship, and the Patriots roll on to Minnesota.

Final Score: New England Patriots  31     Jacksonville Jaguars 24  (Jacksonville covers spread.)

Boston Calling Delivers Stellar Lineup

Once again, the Boston Calling music festival will take place on the hollowed grounds of Harvard University this May. “Allston Rock City” will once again be inundated with music fans and hipsters over the course of the three day event. As with last year’s initial lineup at the new location, fans were abuzz upon last week’s star-studded announcement. You’ll find a copy of the Boston Calling announcement poster below:

The headliners are standard fare for the 2018 festival circuit. Is Eminem hellbent on performing at every big fest this summer? However, the idea of Slim Shady tearing through his hits steps away from Harvard Square is no less astounding. The Killers, fresh off their sold-out show at TD Garden earlier this month, continue to prove they put on a must-see show. And Jack White? Time will tell what he has in store for this summer’s shows, but I wouldn’t put it past him to put on the show of the weekend.

The mid-card acts feature bands that always seem to put their best foot forward for festival gigs. The National, Paramore, St. Vincent, Tauk and The Decemberists are ones to watch!

In addition, the festival announced sweeping changes stemming from fan complaints and suggestions following last year’s first go-round at the Harvard Athletic Complex.

Yesterday, Boston Calling released their daily lineups with single day tickets and 3-day packages on sale now! You’ll find a copy of the poster below as well as a link to buy tickets!
